Photo by Howard StallingsSteven was born in Jersey City, New York on 16 June, 1940. At an early age he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and for his entire life has had extremely limited use of his arms and hands. His gift for art became apparent when at the age of six he began to draw and paint with his mouth.

Steven studied at Swarthmore College, Bard College, the New York Art School, the University of Madrid and the Allende Institute in Mexico. He has received numerous prizes and awards and is a member of the Royal Art Society of London. He is also a member of several artist's organizations. He has had personal exhibitions at Princeton and Swarthmore and in New York, New Jersey, Martinique, Valencia, Madrid, Bangkok, Paris and London.

Steven is also a man of great intellect. He speaks eight languages and writes poetry and essays which have been translated into several languages. His hobbies are politics, literature, music, psychology, history and philosophy.

Above all, Steven is a man of deep passion - a passion that is readily prevalent in all of his artistic endeavors.
